The ticket agent sounded as if he was doing me a favour. No wonder when I showed up at the airport, the air farnce flight was almost empty whereas there was a big rush on lufthansa.
CHANDU - I see airline is responsible for this. It is their duty to prevail on authorities otherwise why are they asking for business from Indian customers? In 2004 Delta used to fly via france and my brother had missed connection, he was provided hotel by delta in france for one night. Ya, I am thinking of starting an outsourcing company which could take this stupid easy work from USCIS and outsource all that work to Thailand. Then I will sponsor work visa for all these bumps at USCIS to work in the outsourced site. Soon you will see me in the court of loo doggs answering his question "how in the world did you outsource all these 'american' jobs"? And my answer would be 'because these guys were all genius and were expert at eastimating the cost of running a query. So we hired bunch of them to represent the company with USCIS."

I think I know how this works. They would outsource this program to some govt contractor (or ask the govt contractor who is working on their data ) to produce that report which costs (<10$ worth of time/effort, if they have all the data).
If all they want is money ..so be it. I am ready to pony up $50 for this,if we all approach together. But as someone suggested country of chargability is a must.

sorry but this is ridiculous. If the US has a skill shortage and wants foreign workers, it should ensure that the foreign worker and his/her family are given the same rights that a domestic workers family enjoys.

Its true that they are not forcing this on us and we are free to go back anytime. But still isn't the inequality pretty clear here? and this country is supposed to be all about equality...
I agree with you. This policy basically amounts to treating "skilled labor" as some inanimate robots with no emotions or needs whatsoever. If H4 folks are free-loaders, then so are the dependents of EB green card holders .. after all the dependents didnt go through labor cert, did they ? As for the equality hogwash, I have long stopped believing that .. it exists only technically; but reality is what is staring us right now .. retrogression for coming countries with large number of skilled people, backlog "elimination" centers and infinite waits to be given any meaningful rights. Porting process is a legit process and for well qualified EB-3 india folks thats the only ray of Hope.
You can rant about it but noone going to stop the porting process becaue the folks who initially filed under EB-3 are now eligible to get Job promotions , new roles and responsibilities in their Career and in some cases new Sr. Job positions which are qualified EB-2. By the way they do file new PERM labor and new I-140, it is not a automatic qualification just based on number of years waiting in the endless EB-3 india queue.
Under the current circumstances where EB-3 india doesnt get any spillover numbers or any such relief like VISA recapture bill, do you expect them to go behind the lines with new EB-2 PD? What about the wait period in the backlog centres, in the PERM process and for few I140 stage waiting period? Its the law and people are following it. You can try porting to EB1 if you are qualified enough and port your EB-2 PD to EB-1.
Just because you are qualified initially for EB-2 doesnt mean others are inferior and they are not eligible to port to EB-2.

People with EB3-India may not expect any kind of fast movement in near future, unless law changes. It will be in snail phase. It is waste discussion to analyze howmany people filled EB3 LC from India in 2002,2003 etc. Generally EB3 is very high demand catagory from all accross the world. EB3 contains skilled worker catagory including cooks, nurses, and so many many non-professional occupations. All the discusion are focussed on demand by Indian IT folks, by ignoring other spectrum of the demand by other group of peoples. Therfore no matter what; EB3-India will get only 3000 EB3 GC per year (Approxmatly 1500 primary).
1500 LC per year EB3 India is a tiny fraction of the demand by EB3 India. Therefore best advise in EB3 India folks to convert into EB2 to get use of early PD like 2002 or 2003.

I think that listing an absolute value does not provide an accurate picture. If you measure in terms of relative values, then you will see that immigration is important; it is a top 3 issue. However, let's not forget that there is a nasty war going on and sons and daughters of people are dying for - in my view - a war that makes no sense at all. That is serious and it has undeniably galvanized the attention of the public at this time.
That said, from what I have been reading on talk radio shows, people are disappointed in general with the GOP - even with the pro amnesty position adopted by Pres. Bush, McCain, Specter, etc - and therefore want to give them a bad time. I don't think that was an endorsement for amnesty at all.
Celebrate now. Amnesty for 20 million+ is coming and hopefully we can take a ride :-)

I did not know your case particularly but many people like you I know got their I140 cleared and filing I485 now after PD is moved. Still skill bill also does not have anything for persons like you that is you have to wait for your labor cleared. Any bill gives solutions for the persons like you or any lobbying going on? As for as I know no lobbying for these cases like these. Only thing we can do is request BEC to process fast by allocating more funds
First of all, it is not "my" case. I have been waiting in line for my green card for the past 5 years with my labor stuck in BEC. So, under the current CIR draft, I will be one of the biggest losers as I have not filed for my I-140 and so, my whole application will go down the drain after 5 years of time, money, energy and emotional stress.
How do you come with a math where I will be able to get a GC immediately after 5 years if I apply under the points system? Did you even read the draft bill? How will I or anybody else for that matter, manage for next 5 years without a GC when they are squeezing out the H1B (fee increase, removal of dual intent etc)?? Next would be the per country hard quota that will put us in an eternally long line.
I would definitely compare the current mess of a EB based system with the untested point system and take the current system any time as it is a known devil. The merit system is no angel either. Atleast in the current system, if I wait long enough, I know that my turn will come.

The PERM system takes one month. If you pay premium processing, it takes them 15 days to clear your I-140. So, where is the delay in process? After you discover the problems in the point system, what will you do then? Ask for another CIR bill??

Based on the wording of the visa distribution law, it does not look like the pattern change is a permanent one. The pattern might change again as per USCIS whims and fancy.

On a serious note though, You provided so many ways that money is being raised by running marathons, funding drives etc etc...but come on, where on this website or anywhere else is it mentioned how this money is being spent??
I have absolutely no right to ask that question because i have never contributed money. But when i am told that I dont have access to this thread or that thread because I am not a donor...I do have the right to question if this organization actually represents all immigrants or just the donors?? If the motto of IV becomes "Change for fairness and justice (For Donors Only)" then it would make a lot more sense to me. But as long as IV keeps on harping that they represent the plight of legal immigrants (which I am) then I do have the right to ask the question ..."What exactly has IV done?"
Asking the question is never the problem, it may make people uncomfortable but I want people (like yourself) who are contributing to at least ask IV before ranting on people like me (who dont contribute) to support the cause...Supporting the cause is NOT equal to giving IV money. The republicans already tried something similar ..."If you are anti-war, you dont support the troops"..That was fallacious and so are all the personal attacks on the "freeloaders" (like myself ofcourse).
